YOU WILL NEED…
A Sunny day so you get nice strong shadows Drawing partner so you can take turns drawing and making shadows Pens or any media to draw outlines Large drawing surface – if you don’t have large paper sheets think about other surfaces you could draw on… how about a cardboard box that you could open up or some brown packaging paper, baking paper, newspaper. Think outside of the box! Tape (to stop your paper blowing in the breeze)
LET'S DO IT…
1. First secure your paper down, especially if there’s a breeze.
2. Find a good sunny spot and get your drawing partner to stand between the sun and your paper and pull some moves to cast shadow shapes over the paper, – the more dynamic the better.
3. Now they must freeze mid movement – how still can they stay?
4. Draw around the outline. Notice how shadows change as the sun moves across the sky…
Why not turn it into a game of musical statues… bust some moves to your favourite tunes, freeze when the music stops and turn whatever shapes you are making into shadow drawings!!
MORE IDEAS!

Just add music…
Explore the work of Keith Haring, his artworks are full of life and movement, he used line drawings in bright colours to show moving and dancing figures. His drawings are full of squiggles, dots and dashes which wiggle all around his figures making his art look exciting and full of movement. He often worked to music.
How about putting on some music you love… add lines, marks, patterns, figures, animals, objects around your line drawing?

Shadow Sculptures
Look at the amazing shadow sculptures of Tim and Sue Noble, a married couple who create together. They use rubbish to create genius shadow sculptures…what looks like a pile of garbage transforms into human figures when bright light is shone behind and shadow art is created!
What rubbish could you use to try a shadow sculpture like the Nobles? Choose light objects that you could stick together easily with Sellotape, take photos of your shadowy creations and share!
